T he woman behind the machine is Captain Orinda Fremont. Quick thinking, fiercely loyal, and willing to sacrifice herself for the good of the team, she bears the qualities of an elite warrior, and that is exactly what she is. With her training and background, there is little chance of failure when it comes to Hellfire, despite her hotheaded tendencies. And Fremont’s CMR was nicknamed Hellfire not just because of those tendencies – she is usually the first of her team to danger and the most willing to put herself in the heat of things. Her teammates joke that they’ll no doubt be seeing the fiery explosion of her shell first. All bravery aside – her bark is not nearly as strong as her bite, and she would rather be airborne in Hellfire’s light CMR than piloting the more strenuous tanks. Plus, when it comes to skill in the sky, Fremont is by far one of the most advanced and adept of the GHC’s elite military.
The Captain does have one soft spot – her emotions. She is extremely skilled and can be trusted to make decisions under pressure. However, she forms strong emotional ties with her teammates, much stronger than the ties she has to missions. While this often manifests itself as Fremont playing the part of human shield, it is her main weakness that she remains more focused on her teammates than her own task. Naturally, Orinda views it as a strong quality, but she would be the last to admit that anything she does would ever cause a problem. It is surprising that she works so well in teams with this unwillingness to admit fault, but anyone who has worked with her has nothing but good things to say. She dedicates herself to any task that she is assigned.
Fremont approaches the challenge of defeating the COR faction with her usual arrogance. She believes that a chip could never be as proficient in a military situation as a team of humans, especially such a well-formed team, chosen from members of GHC’s elite military. The Captain is a veteran member and has served for the last fifteen years, moving up to the elite branch just under ten years ago. The special training that she has received for the last decade, coupled with the team training of the last six months has convinced her that COR’s utilitarian robots have no chance. She feels secure in the preparedness of the team, and anxiously awaits the landing on Tantalus IX.

At thirty-seven, Scorch’s pilot is the eldest member of the GHC’s squad. Lieutenant General Arnold Emerson was trained since his mid-teens to become a member of the elite military. As an orphaned youth, he was found by a GHC squad during a raid and adopted into military life. His life experience gave his personality a cold and rough shell; Emerson channeled all of his energy into physical fitness, accuracy, and a military career. His promotion to Lieutenant General at the age of thirty, while completely unexpected to military outsiders, was nothing more than a logical progression to everyone who knew him. Emerson’s dedication and strength has always been immeasurable, which is why the GHC leaders have made it clear that he’s being considered for a promotion once again – to General. When the news of the ADAM project’s failure broke, it was not long until his name was suggested to lead the attack against the rebel CMRs. He agreed – eager to begin the rigorous training program that his responsibilities as high-ranking officer had kept him from, in recent years.
During the initial phases of his CMR’s construction and trials, the plasma cannon’s core had a failure and caused it to violently overheat, severely burning Emerson in the process. He recovered, despite the scorch marks that became scars on his forehead. And, he wasn’t phased by the accident, as is his nature. He is the type of man who could shoot his own arm off, and only be u pset because it makes reloading difficult. Though normally quiet and focused, when he sees the best approach or tactic in any given situation, he is quick to assume a position of leadership and execute that course of action.
The Lt. General is gruff and seems unfriendly, and he is. His teammates are accustomed to it, all being associated with the elite military, and all having served under his command in the past. He trusts them – and every once in a while they’ll even get a laugh out of him. These aspects of his personality translate into a fierce battle spirit. He’s slow and steady, but in the heat of battle, he often launches into a state of concentrated rage that only victory will alleviate.

Russian-born Niccoli Monotok is a rookie pilot, with only four years of service to the elite military. Niccoli was a fiery, turbulent child. He had no siblings and few friends. His favorite pastime was terrorizing neighborhood children with plastic guns. Niccoli’s mother and father took the toys away, in an attempt to curb his violent streak. But to his parents’ dismay, Niccoli found creative replacements for the toys. Eventually, they abandoned their cause, and made peace with the fact that their son would surely be a strong force in the Great Human Council’s elite military, one of the highest honors in the GHC nation.
In Niccoli’s fourth year of military training, he was summoned to join a team of the GHC’s most prestigious fighters. The trigger-happy young man found himself among seasoned veterans of war. Despite being young and having little experience, GHC leaders saw him as an asset to the team. He was chosen for his fearlessness, tendency to take risks, and extreme skill. Niccoli threw himself into the mission, wanting to prove himself. His drive to succeed nearly outweighs his desire to decimate, and in past missions, he often ignored major injuries to continue fighting. This is both strong and naïve, but his teammates understand to watch out for him, and to remove him from battle if it is necessary.
Niccoli may excel at managing weapons – perhaps he is the most proficient in this area than any GHC elite. But, he is unpredictable; his team learned early that trusting him with weapons could lead to the downfall of this mission. In fact, he has a history of disobeying orders in ways that he deems more suitable to achieve his goals. It’s not that Niccoli is lacking any loyalty, but he has a certain arrogance that he knows best. For these reasons, the weaponless Streak CMR became his.

Harpoon has always been one of the most heroic and brave members of COR. Despite being a smaller CMR, he has never let his size affect the courage that is tied to his personality, and a s such, Harpoon is the first to enter any battle. Though strong, knowing and understanding his limits has always been a weakness. Arrogant and ambitious, he sometimes finds himself in dangerous situations where he has very little chance to survive.
Though Harpoon may understand he is gambling his well being for the sake of his pride, it’s a lesson he is likely to never learn. And Harpoon’s pride has been the source of many inter-faction conflicts. Always believing he is the most capable and correct, he will attempt to prove his superiority, even if it means lashing out at other COR members with insults, or driving off cliffs to show off.
In a sense, this determination and devotion are a great aspect of Harpoon’s personality. When focused on a battle objective, he has proven that the qualities translate from chest-thumping antics to pure concentration and perseverance in the heat of conflict. If it should happen that Harpoon bravely enter a situation where he becomes overwhelmed, his team is quick to back him. However, he is an experienced escape artist and often overcomes the hostile circumstances where few odds are in his favor.
Though Harpoon can be described as self-centred, he is certainly still an effective member of COR. He may play to win, but when his team has to work together with a common goal, suddenly his primary concern is making sure that every member of the team stays alive. In fact, it is not rare that Harpoon will risk damage or his own death in order to ensure a teammate’s safety. When the battle is over, he’ll insist he only felt himself stronger and less vulnerable. The other COR members are sure that it’s merely an excuse serving to preserve his masculinity. Harpoon has a supreme attachment and loyalty to the COR, and he would risk anything to guarantee that it stays intact. It is no surprise that his special ability is one of manifested attachment.

Pulse is a speedy and pushy CMR who often thinks out loud, switching the underlying points of his rants mid-sentence. Despite the strange patterns, he’s always been a great asset to the COR. Even when the CMRs were mere mining machines, Pulse was always willing to push himself to give as much as he possibly could, and he extended this attitude to the other team members as well. He knew what they could achieve together. When the makings of a revolution surfaced, Pulse talked night and day to anyone who would listen. He had plans, theories and tactics, and was always coming up with something new. And it was Pulse who united the CMRs, as not all of them were sure that revolting would be the proper course of action. Through his convincing, he was able to unite the faction under the common goal of destroying the GHC and earning their independence.
It is not common knowledge that the first GHC squad, whom COR destroyed, was defeated in large part to Pulse. Not only was it Pulse’s idea to lure the squad into a dangerous area, it was through his manipulation skills that they were lured. Granted, of course, that it was one of his many passing ideas, cherry-picked by one of the other CMRs. Upon presenting Pulse with the focus of luring them, the COR would soon dominate the GHC. While Pulse is highly ambitious, he lacks leadership skills. He ramblings are sometimes difficult to understand, and he could be described as immature, but his intentions are good. Still, in very stressful situations, he always manages to pull the team together.
Pulse may be more focused on thinking and plotting than he is on fighting, but his goal of achieving COR’s independence outweighs all others. Until this goal is met, Pulse will focus on nothing other than the best way to do so. So long as he is still alive, he will not accept anything less than victory.

It is not surprising that Slice quickly became the acting leader for the COR faction. His uncompromising belief that none of the utilitarian mining robots on Tantalus IX should be kept as slaves drove him to rebel. In fact, this premise is the core of the revolution itself. Slice’s dedication, skill, and strength pushed him into the role. He is a natural leader, and this was apparent to every other CMR. At first, Slice resisted; it was never his intention to be in a position of power. But eventually, he too agreed that he was best suited to carry the responsibility. After all, he made a personal vow to forever pursue their cause, until it led to victory.
For a robot, it is shocking just how human Slice’s qualities are. He is exceptionally moral, and considers the sacrifice of a single CMR to be one sacrifice too many. And while his immediate goal is to free himself and the rest of his faction from GHC control, it is doubtful he will stop there. He may not realize his own plans for greatness, but in his heart, he values the just treatment of fellow robots enough to launch a full-scale war against the GHC. More than any other CMR, he was outraged and saddened by the treatment of robots in the “civilized” GHC areas. It has affected him, underneath and above the surface. It’s put a fire under him that directly translates to his battle spirit and dedication to the revolution.
Slice may be driven by his emotions, but his battle spirit is fierce. Without question, he has the most endurance of any CMR in the COR faction. Surrendering is not a phrase that Slice would ever consider, and with the strength he possesses, he has no need to consider quitting. Slice’s strength is unrivaled among his kind, but the GHC are formidable foes. He has come to terms with the only acceptable options for his future: freedom, or death.
